Reception/Year One - Chestnut Class
Chestnut Class is a mixed class of Reception and Year 1 children, where learning is carefully planned to meet the needs of all pupils across both year groups.
We follow the principles and commitments of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which set out the standards for learning, development and care for all children in the Foundation Stage.
Throughout the year, children’s learning, progress and achievements are recorded through the EYFS Profile. At the end of Reception, there is a statutory assessment which provides the school and parents with a detailed summary of each child’s attainment against the Early Learning Goals.
The Year 1 children in the Year 1/2 class (Elm) learn alongside the Year R/1 children (Chestnut). They have some joint learning opportunities, including maths, where they work together and follow the Year 1 curriculum, helping to ensure consistency, continuity and a smooth transition into Key Stage 1 learning.
