Remote Learning

Yalding St Peter and St Paul Church of England Primary School

At Yalding St Peter and St Paul Church of England Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child continues to receive a high-quality education should circumstances require the school, or part of the school, to close unexpectedly.

Our remote learning provision is designed to maintain pupils' learning, wellbeing and connection with their teachers while they are learning from home.

When Remote Learning Will Be Used

Remote learning may be implemented when:

  • The school is required to close due to exceptional circumstances, such as severe weather or loss of essential services.

  • A class or year group is unable to attend school.

  • Individual pupils are unable to attend school for an extended period, where appropriate.

Parents and carers will be informed as soon as possible through the school's usual communication channels.

How Will Remote Learning Work?

Whilst your child is learning from home, they will continue to receive learning that closely reflects the curriculum they would have been following in school. This helps to ensure that children continue to make good progress and do not miss important aspects of their education.

Learning for children in Years 1–6 will be printed, emailed or uploaded to Google Drive.

Children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) will have learning shared through Tapestry and parents are encouraged to upload photographs and observations of their child's learning for staff to celebrate and provide feedback.

Where appropriate, teachers may also send learning resources directly to families by email.

If you are unable to access online learning, please contact the school office. We will do our best to support families by:

  • helping you access our online learning platforms;

  • arranging the loan of a digital device where available; or

  • providing paper copies of learning where appropriate.

My Child Has Additional Needs. How Will Their Learning Work?

We recognise that some pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), may require additional support to access remote learning.

Where appropriate, we will:

  • provide personalised learning in line with your child's EHCP or individual support plan;

  • adapt learning activities to meet individual needs;

  • deliver learning through ClassDojo, Tapestry or directly to families where appropriate;

  • work closely with parents and carers to ensure pupils continue to make progress.

Daily Expectations

Children will receive approximately three hours of learning each day, in line with Department for Education guidance for primary-aged pupils.

Learning will normally include:

  • English

  • Mathematics

  • Reading

  • One wider curriculum (topic) activity

  • Practical, creative or physical activities where appropriate

Families are encouraged to:

  • complete the learning activities provided each day;

  • read regularly;

  • submit completed work where requested;

  • take regular breaks;

  • spend time being physically active.

We understand that every family's circumstances are different and will always work with parents where flexibility is needed.

Types of Learning

Learning activities may include:

  • recorded teaching videos;

  • teacher presentations and explanations;

  • worksheets prepared by teachers;

  • workbook activities;

  • educational websites;

  • practical investigations;

  • creative and project-based learning.

On the first day of an unexpected closure, we ask families to access the school's online learning platforms while teachers prepare and upload learning for the remainder of the closure.

If the school is closed due to snow, children may also receive a snow-day activity grid containing practical outdoor learning ideas where it is safe to do so.

Additional Learning Resources

Families may also wish to access:

  • Oak National Academy for teacher-led lessons across all year groups.

  • BBC Bitesize for engaging curriculum-based activities and revision.

These resources can be used alongside the learning provided by school.

Feedback and Support

Children should upload completed work to Google Drive where requested.

Teachers and teaching assistants will review submitted work and provide feedback during normal school hours where appropriate.

Feedback may include:

  • praise and encouragement;

  • recognition of successful learning;

  • suggestions for improvement;

  • next steps to support further learning.

Parents are encouraged to contact their child's class teacher if:

  • their child is finding learning difficult;

  • they require additional support;

  • they experience difficulties accessing online learning.

Safeguarding

The safety and wellbeing of our pupils remains our highest priority during any period of remote learning.

All online communication between staff, pupils and families will take place through approved school platforms and in accordance with the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and Online Safety Policy.

Children should always be supervised appropriately when accessing online learning.

Any safeguarding concerns should continue to be reported to the school immediately.

Working Together

Successful remote learning relies on a strong partnership between school and home.

We ask parents and carers to:

  • encourage children to engage positively with their learning;

  • help establish a suitable daily learning routine where possible;

  • supervise children when using online learning platforms;

  • communicate with the school if support is needed.

Our staff will:

  • provide appropriate learning activities that reflect the curriculum;

  • monitor engagement where possible;

  • provide feedback and guidance;

  • support pupils and families where required;

  • continue to promote children's wellbeing alongside their academic progress.

Thank you for your continued support.

By working together, we can ensure that every child at Yalding St Peter and St Paul Church of England Primary School continues to learn, achieve and flourish, whatever the circumstances.
