Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

At Yalding Primary School, we are committed to providing every child with the very best start to their educational journey. Our Reception class follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which supports the learning, development and care of children from birth to five years old. The EYFS provides the foundations for lifelong learning, helping children to develop the skills, knowledge, confidence and resilience they need to thrive.

Our Reception Curriculum

We believe in educating the whole child, placing equal importance on intellectual, social, emotional, physical and creative development. We celebrate the unique qualities, experiences and cultural backgrounds that every child brings to our school community, ensuring that all children feel valued, respected and included. This reflects our school Christian values of Love, Respect and Responsibility, which are at the heart of everything we do.

Our carefully planned curriculum combines adult-led learning, child-initiated activities and purposeful play, creating a stimulating environment where children are encouraged to explore, question and discover. Learning experiences are designed to build independence, curiosity and confidence while supporting progress across all areas of the EYFS curriculum.

Learning Through Play

Play is central to learning in Reception. Through a wide range of engaging indoor and outdoor experiences, children have opportunities to investigate, create, problem-solve, collaborate and develop their communication skills. Play enables children to practise and consolidate new learning in meaningful and enjoyable ways, fostering a lifelong love of learning.
